Mike Duggan at Detroit's Annual Tree Lighting Ceramony

The holiday season brings tree lightings and parades — and this year, a celebration of the progress shaped through partnership, and Mayor Mike Duggan’s 12 years of leadership.

These recent news articles are shining a light on Detroit’s incredible momentum and revitalization:

  • More than 120,000 people packed downtown for the city’s annual tree lighting ceremony, turning Campus Martius Park into a bright symbol of momentum and community pride.
  • National attention followed as The New York Times highlighted Detroit’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the city’s visible transformation. As Mayor Duggan draws near to the end of his 12-year tenure, he reflected:
    • “The first year I was in the parade, we went past a whole lot of empty buildings…every year that went by, you could see the growth of the city spreading.”

In addition to vibrant holiday celebrations, the city’s transformation is evident through other milestones throughout his leadership including bringing 30,000 new jobs, reducing the crime rate to the lowest it’s been in decades and growing the population for the first time in 60 years.

Detroit’s progress is impossible to miss, and the world is taking notice.
